A 20 lb propane tank on your fire pit will last about 4 to 4 and a half hours, but that assumes you’re burning at the highest output and you’re burning continuously.

Reducing the output can significantly increase the life of the propane tank. Just reducing to a medium output could make your tank last 8 to 9 hours.

What size propane tank do I need for a fire pit?

A 20 lb propane tank is going to be sufficient for most fire pits, but there are larger sizes available. Keep in mind that many fire pits come with a cover that is designed for a 20 lb tank, and others that have space for the tank inside the fire pit itself also are designed for a 20 lb tank.
