SunStar SGL Glass Infrared Patio Heater Features

  • Two Stage High And Low Heat: The SGL35 runs at 24,000 BTU on low and 35,000 BTU on high, and the newer SGL50 runs 34,000 to 50,000 BTU. Use low on mild evenings and high when it turns cold instead of paying for full output all night.
  • Tinted Glass Radiant Patio Heater: High temperature tinted glass covers the burner, so the heater looks finished on a restaurant patio and holds its heat better on windy days. SunStar rates the GLASS wind resistant up to 40 MPH.
  • Radiant Heat At Table Level: Infrared warms people and surfaces directly instead of heating the air first, so guests feel the heat even with an open patio. One heater covers about a 12 ft by 12 ft area in light wind.
  • Mount Flat Or Angled To 60 Degrees: Install it horizontally under a ceiling or angle it up to 60 degrees on a wall, column or pole. With the optional heat shield, ceiling clearance can drop to as little as 10 inches.
  • Optional Hand Held Remote: The 10 models (N10, L10) include the two stage hand held remote. The 7 models (N7, L7) are controlled by a wall switch or thermostat from the optional add-ons below.
  • Propane Or Natural Gas: Every size is offered for liquid propane or natural gas. Order the fuel the site actually has; gas conversion is not a field swap on these heaters.

What is the difference between the SGL35 and SGL50?

Output. The SGL35 runs 24,000 BTU on low and 35,000 BTU on high. The SGL50, SunStar's newer 2023 model, runs 34,000 BTU on low and 50,000 BTU on high. Both share the same 48 inch glass front body and clearances.

What do the 7 and 10 at the end of the model number mean?

Models ending in 7 (N7, L7) have no remote and are run from a wall switch or thermostat. Models ending in 10 (N10, L10) come with the hand held two stage remote control.

Can this glass radiant patio heater run on one stage only?

Yes. It ships as a two stage heater, and SunStar supplies a jumper wire so it can run at full power as a single stage heater if you prefer.

How much area does one heater cover?

About 12 ft by 12 ft in minimal wind. For larger patios, SunStar's sizing and layout guide (linked below) shows how to space several heaters.

Can it be mounted close to the ceiling?

With the optional heat shield kit, ceiling clearance at a horizontal mount drops from 20 inches to 10 inches. The black heat shield is model specific: one kit for the SGL35 and another for the SGL50.

Is the SGL rated for outdoor use?

Yes. It is outdoor rated and wind resistant up to 40 MPH, built for restaurant patios, bars, verandas, smoking areas, vestibules and residential patios.
